I’m learning to pare down to actual essentials for these trips! I borrowed my friend’s marine beanbag (one that sits up in a chair shape, I haven’t yet tried the round more typical looking ones) and slept on the upper deck, and it’s the best sleep I’ve gotten on the boat! My camp pillow and summer weight sleeping bag did the job, and my “pjs” of leggings and and a long-sleeved t-shirt sufficed. When I got up, I changed into my UPF button-down shirt and should have changed into my lightweight UPF pants (the black leggings got hot over the course of the day). In addition, the things that were necessary:
- Sunscreen
- Visor, trucker hat, floppy sun hat (switched between these over the course of the day depending on how much sun coverage I wanted)
- Flip flops (didn’t need any special footwear besides this)
- lightweight Buff (protected against wind, sun, dampness)
- lightweight packable puff jacket (got cool on the way back in the wind and after exposure to the elements all day)
- Costa Del Mar sunglasses (or any great polarized sunglasses that offer topnotch eye protection; I love these because they also help with looking down into the water)
- Sunglasses strap
